Good morning. A lot of crazy tennis parents think their kid is gonna be #1 in the world some day. Mine better be, in both singles and doubles. Now let’s dive in.

Carlos Questionable for Roland Garros

Carlos, my middle school friends and I would like to sign your brace in multi-color sharpie (IG/@skysport)
I knew the kid was playing too much golf. Tough on the wrist, especially with his swing. The World No. 2 withdrew from both Barthelona and Madrid, and is uncertain whether he’ll be ready to defend his French Open title. In a press conference yesterday, the wise 22 year old shared where his head’s at:
“I have a long career ahead of me, with many years to go, and forcing myself to play at this Roland Garros could damage my future, so as I said, we’ll see how things go in the [medical] tests and then we’ll decide based on that. I'd rather come back later but fit than too soon”

In all seriousness, Carlos missing Roland Garros would be a huge opportunity for the rest of the field. The reigning champ hasn’t missed a slam since AO 2023, and has won 6 of 12 since then.
Moving forward: Carlos is expected to get test results back this week, which will give us a better indication of who to bet on his availability.

Jamie Murray

(ATP Tour/Getty Images)
Last Wednesday, Jamie Murray announced that he’s officially retiring from pro tennis.
The Scottish dubs specialist won 34 tour-level titles, including 7 Grand Slams (2 regular, 5 mixed), rose to No. 1 in the World, and much more. Notable to the newsletter, he won his first title with reader (shoutout) Eric Butorac back in 2007.
Some of you might be wondering, why give the lesser-known-Murray his own section?
Because we can all get better at volleys. Jamie has some of the quickest hands the game has ever seen. And I thought you all might appreciate this excellent drill to develop faster hands, or like these 3 tips on improving your forehand volley.
